Agriculture in India is at the threshold of transformation. From the brink of starvation to food surplus, from subsistence farming to sustainable agriculture, from man driven to technology driven, from production to marketing and from domestic to international consumers; agriculture has come a long way in providing food security, employment generation and foreign exchange earnings. But, the issue of climate change and global warming pose a great danger to the sustainability of our environment and agriculture and the very survival of the communities.
The growth in farm and industrial sector is only adding to the dangers of environmental degradation, as safety and carbon emission control remain totally neglected in the development planning. The plight of communities has not changed much in the last fifty years. India has witnessed major industrial growth during the last few decades but the policy makers have failed to protect environment and agriculture. Centre for Agriculture and Rural Development (CARD) is dedicated to give voice to the cause of communities and to strive towards improving the quality of life of masses through protection of environment, industrial safety, reduction in pesticides consumption and promoting safe and sustainable farming systems.
Established in the year 2000 under the societies act 1860, CARD is a national level non-governmental organisation, which is addressing the environmental, social, policy and technical needs related to the development of agriculture and ecology. CARD focuses on organizing, mobilizing communities and local as well as external resources for social, educational, environmental, technological and developmental interventions.
CARD undertakes training, capacity building and technology exposure by organizing business and technical seminars, workshops and technology fairs. CARD monitors trends in agriculture and environment sector and advises Central and State Governments and various bodies on appropriate policies and actions for the development of agriculture, environemnt and the rural economy.
